For decades, collaboration technology has been limited to large and expensive meeting rooms. With office space costing a premium, the average workplace is getting smaller. As a result, the number of people working remotely is increasing. Consequently, driving demand for collaborative furniture, solutions, and space. As a result, there has been a rise in huddle spaces.

What is a huddle space?

According to the Oxford Dictionary, a huddle is “a number of people gathered together to speak about private or secret matters.” In other words, a business meeting. A huddle space is just as the name implies. It is a small meeting space within an office or small meeting room that accommodates a limited number of people work together when required.

Despite the recent flurry of press coverage, the huddle space concept is far from new. These small meeting rooms have existed for years. However, they have generally been ignored or relegated to the status of ‘that small room round the corner’. Office huddle spaces and university huddle spaces are becoming an increasingly popular investment. They encourage collaborative learning, and promote the sharing of briefing, planning, and problem solving.

What’s in the Huddle Space?

Huddle spaces often include a small meeting table and chairs that offer flexibility, such as an option for a sit/stand desk, plus audio-visual (AV) equipment. A well-equipped space will include a flat panel display mounted to the wall and a VGA/HDMI cable to allow users to connect to their mobile devices and laptops. It might even include a wireless presentation system. An advanced huddle area will typically support integrated audio and video conferencing. We have a wide range of collaboration tables to choose from. So, you can make sure that no matter what shape/size room you have, you can create the perfect collaboration workspace.

Benefits of collaborative learning

Working remotely is becoming more popular. Therefore, many places are embracing the idea of small meeting spaces to enable staff to continue to collaborate as and when required. This space is perfect to use for working privately or for small groups of people working together. Unlike traditional meeting rooms or conference rooms, these spaces require no reservation. They are there to support impromptu meetings and discussions.

Due to the size of huddle spaces, only a small group of people can occupy the space therefore it will increase productivity and reduce time being wasted and distractions. Most importantly, these spaces allow you to work together without incurring a large cost or having to worry about having the right equipment and furniture.

What’s the future of Huddle Space?

Due to the evolving nature of the workplace and workforce, it will play an increasingly important role moving forward. Over time, more organisations will recognise the hidden value of their existing smaller meeting spaces. The huddle space doesn’t necessarily make the large meeting room obsolete. In fact, offices require a balance of large meeting rooms and huddle spaces to maximise the use of space to increase productivity. Additionally, to save time and money in the future.
